Listen to the audiobook - you won't be disappointed! Excellent, heart-wrenching, yet hopeful。 It's super quick read/listen。 Took about 2 hours on audiobook。 I now want to go back and listen to Palacio's other stories in this series。 Highly recommend。 Listen to the audiobook - you won't be disappointed! This book gave an age-appropriate inside view of the holocaust from a Jewish survivor。 It is beautifully told and shows how much normal people risked to hide Jews from the Nazis。

A beautiful, fictional graphic novel about a girl that was hidden by a family during the Holocaust。 It is a must read but beware it is politically motivated at the end。

4。5 🌟 -a tiny bit confusing but I loved it!!

Lynda

The book was interesting because of its relation to Wonder。 it was good but more a story of the Holocaust than it was of Julian from Wonder。 But I liked it well enough。 Very quick read。 - Graphic novel。

Alby

This was such a gut wrenching story, but one that should be told。

That kid dying in 'Bridge to Terabithia' was shocking enough, even though everyone else saw that coming a million miles away。""I agree with you, mon cher, deaths like that where you see them coming a million miles off are the best, especially if delivered with cod-religious imagery of a dreamlike white bird。""That's perfect, Grandmere。 And rest assured I will make sure there's a horridly clunky and disrespectful coda to the ending, where the book thinks we're all going to be 'woke' and anti-migration controls just on the basis of what we've just seen。""Oh, but mon cher, there's just one thing。 I've never ever written a graphic novel before, and I've never drawn one before – I mean, I know I can give credit to someone who inks the panels, but I'm going to have to colour the whole 200pp to perfection, and I guess letter the thing myself, all as a novice。""White birds, grandmere – they let you get away with everything。""C'est vrai, mon cher。 C'est vrai。" 。。。more

“White Bird” is a truly heartbreaking comic that deals with a very important topic: the holocaust。 It begins with our main character - Sara - and she gets asked to tell her holocaust story for a project that her grandson is doing。 We follow her entire experience, and what makes it so raw is that it is written from a child’s perspective。 It is just so moving to see how Sara wonders if she’ll survive another day。 The characters are quite likeable, and I like how real the book seems。 It touches sub “White Bird” is a truly heartbreaking comic that deals with a very important topic: the holocaust。 It begins with our main character - Sara - and she gets asked to tell her holocaust story for a project that her grandson is doing。 We follow her entire experience, and what makes it so raw is that it is written from a child’s perspective。 It is just so moving to see how Sara wonders if she’ll survive another day。 The characters are quite likeable, and I like how real the book seems。 It touches subjects like: regret, forgiveness and cruelty to others。 There are some very beautiful quotes。 In this book, there is one main message, and it is: we must learn from our mistakes, or else we will repeat them。 Overall, a lovely comic for all ages that is worthy of your time。 。。。more

As someone who adores graphic novels, it was great to see R。J Palacio’s drawings put to paper for the first time! I think Palacio designed the book covers for Wonder under the pseudonym Tad Carpenter which were great covers too but to do a full length graphic novel was certainly a surprise! It’s wonderful that she retold the story of Julian’s Grandmére’s experience in WWII in pictures, I can’t wait for the movie to be released, I will definitely be seeing it in cinemas!

Amazing book, the number of different emotions that could be put into one book is astonishing。 Along with the other books I read about genocide (Refugee and Number the Stars) this book had an amazing way of forming symbolism and also shaping what happened recently into a comic book is amazing。 The bird, a symbol of freedom has made often appeared in the book but I think it also showed hope when the character had doubts and was at her lowest they imagined the birds。 It also amazes me how much cou Amazing book, the number of different emotions that could be put into one book is astonishing。 Along with the other books I read about genocide (Refugee and Number the Stars) this book had an amazing way of forming symbolism and also shaping what happened recently into a comic book is amazing。 The bird, a symbol of freedom has made often appeared in the book but I think it also showed hope when the character had doubts and was at her lowest they imagined the birds。 It also amazes me how much could change in one singular day。 I recommend this book to 5th graders and up。 。。。more

2。5 stars。 This book was really well done and so though-provoking。。。until the last few pages。 Seriously?! Did the author really have to take this amazing book and ruin it by cramming a political agenda down your throat right at the end? The book ends with an older woman who lived in France during Hitler's rule looking at a newspaper and shaking her head and lamenting that "it's happening again!" If the cartoonist had just left the newspaper blank and let the reader draw their own conclusions the 2。5 stars。 This book was really well done and so though-provoking。。。until the last few pages。 Seriously?! The book ends with an older woman who lived in France during Hitler's rule looking at a newspaper and shaking her head and lamenting that "it's happening again!" If the cartoonist had just left the newspaper blank and let the reader draw their own conclusions then this would have been a fine ending。 Unfortunately, they had to make it political and list a specific president (by name) and include several articles in the newspaper that mentioned things they disagreed with。 I don't know about other readers, but for me, this ruined the whole book。 It made me feel manipulated and cheapened the powerful experience that was shared in the story。 This sudden political aim seemed to come out of the blue and didn't feel like it fit with the rest of the story at all。 Three of my children also read the book and they all had the same reaction as I did (even though we disagree on politics, we did agree that this ending was not appropriate。) Oh well。 The rest of the book was quite good。 。。。more

Incredibly moving and beautifully written。 I can only imagine how many accounts echo that of Sarah and Julien。 I was going to give this a solid 5 stars but truthfully, I was extremely turned off by the political jab at the end of the book。 It was uncalled for and only served to cheapen the seriousness of the story, in my opinion。

This is a book about a Jewish girl living in France during World War Two it’s a very Good book a bit of tears, I think it a great book to start off your reading journey if you don’t know what you like。 It really has a small bit off everything it’s informative, fictional, a bit of romance (to some degree), as well as being based on true events( if that make any sense)。 Overall 4/5 good not too long it is a Graphic novel btw。
